Question by zaatheist: What Christian moral standards allow dioceses to file for bankruptcy as protection against sex abuse claims?

"Seven U.S. Catholic dioceses have filed for bankruptcy protection during the ongoing sexual abuse crisis in the Catholic church: Portland OR, San Diego CA, Tucson AZ, Davenport IA, Spokane WA, Fairbanks AK, and Wilmington DE (includes parts of MD). The Oregon Province of the Jesuits has also filed."
I thought the Pope siad he was concerned about the victims.

Believe it or not the Catholic Church is not a hive mind. The Catholic bishops can do whatever they chose regardless of what the Pope says.
On another note, wouldn't you say sex abuse is below Christian moral standards anyway, what with there being a command direct from got not to "commit adultery"...
